What simple things do you do to live well? |
|
I'm compiling a list of simple, everyday things you can do that help you to live well. It'll probably end up an ebook or something. They are mostly related to areas like; health and fitness, having fun, chilling out, family and friends. Examples include;
- Give someone a compliment.
- Go for a walk.
- Play with your kids.
- Call someone and say hi.
- Meditate.
Would love to add more ideas to the list and am interested to know what simple things you do to live well.

What a nice idea, Sami! The world needs more positive things. I guess if I had to name a few things that are most important to me, they would be to start the day with intention to: Bring a positive note to everyone I come into contact with, whether it's someone on the phone helping me, at the store, I think we affect everyone we meet and if someone is having a bad day because the person they spoke to before me was cranky, maybe I can change that, I try to find at least one thing I can do to make the world a little better, even if it's just emailing or writing a letter for a cause (I belong to a few groups and our mass emails actually helped get someone to change a bill and I got a call from a senator's office because they saw my email, so there IS power in numbers and we can make our voices heard!), I send cards, letters, emails to family and friends to stay in touch. I have an uncle who is 96 who loves getting mail, I think most people love getting a card or letter, it helps them feel connected. I know this is long, Sami, but I also know you have the knack for getting the idea from something and discarding the superfluous! I hope you liked one of these.

I second L.A. - that sounds like a great idea Sami! Off the top of my mind, here are some of the simple things I do which lets me enjoy life more:
- Smiling/Beaming at everyone I see
- Saying thank you for every kind gesture
- Hugging friends who are open to the idea of hugging
- Providing a listening ear to others where they need
- Soaking in the morning air every day
- Exercising and being at the peak of my physical health
- Eating healthily, the raw vegan way

Celestine, nice thoughts. Saw you eat raw foods. Any books you recommend for someone starting? I do still eat eggs (only cage free!) and drink milk sometimes, but otherwise vegan. I love the idea of not cooking (particularly living in the desert!) and wanted some basic recipes and how to have a really balanced raw vegan diet.

Thanks very much guys! Some awesome ideas here! I'll definitely be adding them to the list.
Celestine, "thank you" is a big one. It's not said often enough. There was a story on one of our current affairs/news shows here recently about a couple of stores that have started refusing to serve customers who aren't polite to their staff. I thought them taking a stand against rudeness was great. More stores should do it.
L.A., LOVE the sending cards idea. That's a good one. My nephew loves to get postcards from us. So cool you helped changed the bill! It's so true that there's power in numbers. People often think that they can't do much on their own so why bother but put a bunch of motivated people together and amazing things can happen.
Thanks again guys - appreciate the tips.

Sami, speaking of cards. For those who want to make sure they remember everyone's birthday, special anniversaries, etc., Hallmark (and there are many other sites as well) has FREE ecards and you can put whatever date you want someone to receive. So about every three to six months, I go through my datebook and make ecards for special events coming up. I then just put whatever date I want someone to receive and that way I never miss a birthday or special occasion. It only took me about 1/2 hour to do cards six months out and that included doing personal messages. So for those who really want to remember someone on their birthday or anniversary, here's a pretty painless way to do it and never be late.

Thanks, Celestine, I'll do that! I wanted to ask someone who's actively doing that life style, so I appreciate the tip.

Hey L.A.,
I've done this myself before (I tend to use regards.com). Some people may say it's impersonal but I've always loved receiving them myself.

Really good topic,
I m new to the forum and just about to the the master cleanse next month. The cleanse only have 4 ingredients so thats really simple.I spend a lot of time preparing food, cooking ,doing dishes ... so it will free up a lot of time for me. I also love cooking for my self but it does get little tiring ,so I m looking forward the change this cleanse will cause in my life. No grocery shopping really at that time as I wouldn't eat any food too. I think I ll be really productive at that time. At least I hope.
I ve done other cleanses that have established a lot of healthy ,simple eating habits.

Great topic!
I've seriously found that smiling a lot helps elevate my mood more than anything else when I'm down (well, that and spending some time with my cat). Hugs are good too!
